I’m glad you share my love for treen**. Your bowl should last for a lifetime or longer if well cared for; bowls crafted in the iron age are still being found 2000 years later! Such an investment in an age of disposability has become a revolutionary act and I extend my gratitude for your support. 

 

Your bowl is a natural product. As such it is one of a kind, made for use and will change over time. Do not be alarmed, this is a good thing, this is natural. 

 

Wooden bowls are best kept in a warm dry place. Once used, wash as soon as possible with warm soapy water and leave to dry, or wipe dry. If you don't get round to washing at once, make sure you do not leave liquid sitting in the bowl. Do not use any harsh detergents or scrubbers. 

 

To care for your bowl further, wipe a bit of food-safe oil over the wood now and again. The inks I make from elderberries will fade or darken over time and with use, however oiling it reasonably regularly will slow this process.

 

Oils readily available, such as sunflower oil, vegetable oil or rapeseed oil, are fine to use. If you are keen to use something more hard wearing, hemp oil, mineral oil, flaxseed oil, almond oil or walnut oil are also available. Do not re-oil with olive oil and if you or anyone who may come in contact with the bowl have a nut allergy, do not use nut based oils.
